Your first CUFF.Docs night
Choose a documentary, bring someone curious and make a night of Calgary’s November film festival.
A practical advance guide to CUFF.Docs, November 18–22, 2026 at Globe Cinema.
Start with your curiosity
Start with a subject you already care about. This year’s 15 features range from Calgary’s own STARRY NIGHT, a world premiere about performers living with schizophrenia, to the Alberta country punk band in MORE MILES THAN MONEY, Japan’s sumo stables in SUMO: SPIRIT WEIGHS NOTHING and an escaped Central Park owl in WILD INSIDE. Read the official film description before choosing; the documentary label covers many styles and subjects.
Build one good evening
Pick a screening time from the official programme and invite someone who would enjoy the subject. Globe Cinema is at 617 8 Avenue SW. Allow time to arrive and check the ticket instructions; this guide does not assume reserved seating or a particular runtime.
Let the conversation continue
After the credits, compare what surprised you and what you would like to learn more about. CUFF lists filmmakers in attendance for several screenings this year, including Opening Night with Matthew Rankin, STARRY NIGHT with its local cast and crew, and TURTLE ISLAND RAP. Check the official programme for your screening; guests can change.
Before the documentaries: an overnight horror marathon
Want a different introduction to CUFF? Its October 24 horror marathon runs 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. at Globe Cinema, with seven films and a costume contest. It is a separate event, not part of the November CUFF.Docs programme.
